Accurate Diagnosis Is the Foundation of Everything

Every treatment decision at Lapeer Women’s Health begins with a clear, accurate diagnosis. Before recommending medication, a procedure, or surgery, Dr. Andrei wants to know — with precision — what is actually causing your symptoms. The diagnostic services offered at both the Lapeer and Rochester Hills offices are the tools that make that precision possible.

Diagnostic gynecologic care covers the full evaluation pathway: the well-woman exam that establishes your baseline and screens for conditions before they become problems; imaging and in-office procedures that look inside the uterus, ovaries, and pelvic structures; and laboratory testing that identifies hormonal, metabolic, and systemic contributors to gynecologic symptoms. Each service is performed in the office — no hospital, no unnecessary referrals, no fragmented care.

Dr. Andrei takes an education-first approach to every evaluation. You leave each diagnostic appointment understanding what was found, what it means, and what the options are — not waiting weeks to piece together results from multiple providers.

Diagnostic Services at LWH

Seven Diagnostic Services — All In-Office

Select any service below for a full explanation of what it involves, who it’s appropriate for, and what to expect at your appointment.

Well-Woman Exam

Your annual preventive gynecologic visit — Pap smear, pelvic exam, STI screening, contraception review, and cancer screenings tailored to your age and risk profile. The foundation of gynecologic health at every stage of life.

Gynecologic Ultrasound

Transvaginal and pelvic ultrasound to evaluate the uterus, ovaries, and pelvic structures for fibroids, cysts, polyps, and structural abnormalities. Ordered and interpreted by Dr. Andrei at the same visit when indicated.

Abnormal Bleeding Evaluation

A structured diagnostic workup for heavy, irregular, or postmenopausal bleeding — including history, exam, ultrasound, endometrial biopsy, and lab testing to identify the source and guide treatment planning.

Pelvic Pain Evaluation

Systematic evaluation of acute or chronic pelvic pain — identifying structural, hormonal, and functional contributors including endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, adhesions, and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Gynecologic Hormone & Lab Testing

Targeted hormonal and metabolic laboratory testing to evaluate irregular cycles, PCOS, perimenopause, thyroid dysfunction, and hormonal contributors to gynecologic symptoms — ordered and interpreted in clinical context.

Pelvic Floor Evaluation

In-office evaluation of pelvic floor dysfunction — assessing muscle tone, prolapse stage, bladder control, and pain with function to guide nonsurgical and surgical treatment planning for incontinence and prolapse.

When Imaging Is Needed

A clinical guide to understanding when ultrasound, MRI, CT, or sonohysterography is indicated for gynecologic symptoms — what each modality shows, what it doesn’t, and how imaging findings direct treatment decisions.

The LWH Diagnostic Approach

Diagnosis Before Treatment — Every Time

Dr. Andrei does not treat symptoms in isolation. Every evaluation begins with understanding the mechanism driving those symptoms — because treating the wrong thing, or treating without a diagnosis, rarely produces lasting results.

  • History-first: your cycle, symptoms, timeline, and prior evaluations reviewed in full
  • Clinical exam before imaging — ultrasound ordered when it will change management
  • Lab panels targeted to your specific symptom picture — not a generic screen
  • In-office procedures (biopsy, hysteroscopy) when tissue evaluation is needed
  • Results explained at the appointment — not mailed weeks later without context
  • Treatment plan presented only after the diagnostic picture is clear

“A diagnosis is not a label — it’s the starting point for a plan. I want every patient to leave knowing what we found, what it means for her health, and what we are going to do about it. That clarity is what good diagnostic care looks like.”

— Dr. Ramona D. Andrei · MD, PhD, FACOG
  • GYN-only practice — every appointment focused entirely on gynecologic care

Questions About Diagnostic Services at LWH

No referral is required. Lapeer Women’s Health accepts self-referred patients for all diagnostic services. If you have a referral from your primary care provider or another specialist, bring it — it provides useful clinical context — but it is not required to schedule or be seen.
Most diagnostic testing and in-office procedures — including pelvic ultrasound, endometrial biopsy, pelvic floor evaluation, and lab draws — are performed at the Lapeer or Rochester Hills office. When imaging requires an external radiology facility (such as MRI or CT), Dr. Andrei coordinates the order and reviews results with you directly.
A diagnostic evaluation appointment — including history review, examination, and any in-office procedures performed that day — typically takes 45–60 minutes. A routine well-woman exam without additional diagnostic procedures is generally 30–45 minutes. Plan for additional time if you are bringing records or have multiple concerns to discuss.
Lapeer Women’s Health accepts most major insurance plans. Coverage for specific diagnostic services — including ultrasound, lab panels, and in-office procedures — varies by plan. We recommend contacting your insurance prior to your appointment to confirm coverage and any applicable cost-sharing. Our team is available to help with questions at (810) 969-4670 (Lapeer) or (248) 923-3522 (Rochester Hills).
In many cases, yes. If you are due for your annual well-woman exam and also have a specific concern — abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, or a finding on a prior ultrasound — Dr. Andrei can often address both at the same appointment. When scheduling, let our team know that you have both a preventive visit and a diagnostic concern so adequate time is reserved.
