Small Incisions. Precise Outcomes. A Recovery Measured in Weeks.
Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery replaces the large abdominal incision of open surgery with three to four small openings — through which a camera and precision instruments are inserted to perform the same procedures with significantly less trauma to the surrounding tissue.
Dr. Andrei performs the full range of minimally invasive GYN surgery using two platforms: standard laparoscopy and the da Vinci® robotic system. The choice between them is made based on the specific procedure, the patient’s anatomy, and where a meaningful clinical advantage exists. Neither is the default — both are tools selected for the right case.
Every minimally invasive procedure at Lapeer Women’s Health is performed by Dr. Andrei from first incision to closure. Lapeer Women’s Health is a private gynecology-only practice — not a training program. There are no residents and no handoffs at any of the four affiliated facilities.
Everything You Need to Know Before Your Surgical Consultation
Five pages covering the surgical approaches, the facilities, and exactly what to expect — before, during, and after your procedure.
The da Vinci® robotic system — what it is, what it adds beyond standard laparoscopy, which procedures Dr. Andrei performs robotically, and how the surgeon-controlled platform works. Covers all four affiliated Michigan facilities.
Robotic Surgery OverviewThe established minimally invasive standard — camera and precision instruments through small incisions. Covers the full range of laparoscopic GYN procedures Dr. Andrei performs and how the approach compares to open surgery.
Laparoscopic SurgeryMcLaren Lapeer, McLaren Flint, Henry Ford Rochester, and Lapeer County Surgery Center — what each facility handles, how the facility is selected for your procedure, and what is consistent across all four.
Hospital AffiliationsA complete patient guide from your first pre-operative appointment through surgery day and discharge — every step explained clearly so there are no surprises on the day of your procedure.
What to ExpectRecovery timelines by procedure — from ablation and LEEP (days) to hysterectomy and prolapse repair (weeks). What is normal, what warrants a call, and when to expect full clearance.
Recovery GuideThe Same Procedure. A Dramatically Different Recovery.
Minimally invasive surgery achieves the same clinical goals as open surgery — uterine removal, fibroid excision, endometriosis treatment, prolapse repair — through incisions measured in millimeters rather than inches. The difference in what the body has to recover from is not incremental. It is fundamental.
- 3–4 incisions under 1 centimeter
- No cutting through abdominal muscle layers
- Same-day or next-morning discharge
- Recovery of 2–4 weeks for most procedures
- Significantly reduced blood loss
- Lower wound infection and complication rates
- 10× magnified high-definition visualization
- Dr. Andrei as surgeon throughout
- 5–8 inch abdominal incision
- Muscle layer dissection and retraction
- 2–4 days inpatient hospital stay
- Recovery of 6–8 weeks
- Higher blood loss and transfusion rate
- Higher wound complication rate
- Limited surgical field visualization
- Longer anesthesia exposure
“A gynecology-only practice means my surgical focus is never divided. Every operation I perform is a GYN operation — and the minimally invasive approach is the standard I apply to every case where it is clinically appropriate. That is nearly all of them.”
The Surgeon You Meet
Is the Surgeon Who Operates.
Dr. Andrei performs every minimally invasive GYN procedure herself — no residents, no handoffs. Schedule a consultation to discuss your procedure, your options, and which approach is right for your anatomy.
