Uterine Conditions That Require Surgery — Matched to the Right Procedure and the Right Approach
Not every uterine condition that requires surgery requires a hysterectomy. And not every hysterectomy requires open surgery. At Lapeer Women’s Health, the procedure — and the approach to that procedure — is selected based on your specific diagnosis, anatomy, and goals. The recommendation is always explained, always individualized, and never defaulted.
Dr. Andrei performs the full range of hysterectomy and uterine procedures using the da Vinci® robotic system and advanced laparoscopic techniques. Hysterectomy removes the uterus. Myomectomy removes fibroids while preserving it. Endometrial ablation treats heavy bleeding without removing anything. Oophorectomy addresses ovarian conditions. Each has a specific indication — and each is performed at McLaren Lapeer, McLaren Flint, Henry Ford Rochester, or Lapeer County Surgery Center depending on the procedure and patient.
Choose the Procedure That Matches Your Diagnosis and Goals
Each page below explains who the procedure is for, what it involves, and what recovery looks like — so you arrive at your consultation already informed.
Uterine removal using the da Vinci® system — three-dimensional visualization, wristed instruments, and same-day or next-morning discharge. The most commonly performed robotic GYN procedure at McLaren and Henry Ford hospitals.
Robotic HysterectomyThe established minimally invasive standard — uterine removal through small incisions with decades of outcomes data. Appropriate when the da Vinci® system’s additional precision is not required for the patient’s anatomy.
Laparoscopic HysterectomyUterine fibroids can be treated by removing just the fibroids (myomectomy, with uterine preservation) or by removing the uterus entirely (hysterectomy). Dr. Andrei presents both options and recommends based on your fibroid burden and fertility goals.
Surgery for FibroidsFibroid removal through small incisions while preserving the uterus — the surgical option when symptom relief and fertility or uterine preservation are both priorities. Each fibroid removed, uterine wall repaired in layers.
Laparoscopic MyomectomyNovaSure® endometrial ablation destroys the uterine lining to dramatically reduce or eliminate heavy periods — an outpatient procedure with no incisions, same-day discharge, and a recovery measured in days. Performed primarily at Lapeer County Surgery Center.
Endometrial AblationLaparoscopic removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes — for ovarian cysts, endometriomas, BRCA risk reduction, or concurrent with hysterectomy. Straightforward unilateral cases performed outpatient at Lapeer County Surgery Center.
OophorectomyThe Procedure Is Matched to the Patient — Not Defaulted
The choice between hysterectomy and myomectomy, between robotic and laparoscopic, between hospital and outpatient surgery center — none of these decisions are made by default. Each is the result of reviewing your specific diagnosis, imaging, anatomy, and goals at your surgical consultation.
- Hysterectomy vs. myomectomy — driven by fertility goals and fibroid burden
- Robotic vs. laparoscopic — driven by anatomy and where precision adds clinical value
- Hospital vs. LCSC — driven by procedure type and need for overnight stay
- Ovarian conservation vs. oophorectomy — driven by age, cancer risk, and preference
- Ablation vs. hysterectomy — driven by candidacy, fertility goals, and symptom severity
“Every hysterectomy consultation I do starts with the same question: is hysterectomy actually what this patient needs, or is there a procedure that accomplishes the same goal while preserving the uterus? The answer depends entirely on her specific situation — not on what is easier to schedule.”
- Board-Certified — Obstetrics and Gynecology
- FACOG — Fellow, American College of OB/GYN
- MD, PhD — dual academic credentials

- GYN-only practice — no obstetric cases
